Website Will Serve As Hub Of Tejano History
(San Antonio, Texas) March 2012 – TexasTejano.com, a San Antonio-based company, is pleased to announce that, beginning March 5, 2012, it will be the online home of a comprehensive collection of never-before-seen Tejano documents and photo archives. The collection will encompass hundreds of items including original land grant maps and numerous 17th, 18th and 19th century Tejano biographies. Site visitors will also be able to browse family biographies submitted by local residents— an effort the company believes will allow the general public to readily discover Hispanic family ancestors who contributed to the development of early Texas.
“We believe the site will become an important state and national resource,” says Rudi R. Rodriguez, president and founder of TexasTejano.com, “because it will help provide the public with an accurate history of the development of our state and a historical and cultural identity that will foster pride in our Hispanic heritage and, ultimately, strengthen our society in general.”
To develop the site, TexasTejano.com consulted with leading scholars and historians and utilized records from various archival centers including collaboration with Kent Calder, executive director of the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA) as well as Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and his staff at the Texas General Land Office. Once launched, the site will continue to upload historic family photos, documents and oral histories to help complete the story of Texas.
To debut the online community, TexasTejano.com will be hosting a reception at The McCombs Ballroom at The AT&T San Fernando Community Centre located at 231 W. Commerce Street from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on March 5, 2012. The event will feature Tejano exhibits, portraits and artifacts as well as re-enactors. Refreshments and light hors d'oeuvres will be served. The reception is open to the public; however, because seating is limited, reservations no later than February 29th are encouraged by calling (210) 673-3584. To view the invitation, please click here.
