Tejano Luncheon & Mini Conference 2025

Past |

We are excited to share the success of our recent Tejano Luncheon & Mini Conference, held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the beautiful Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Jack Guenther Pavilion, our venue sponsor. This milestone event marked a meaningful finale to our year as we celebrated Texas Tejano’s 25th anniversary, reconnected with our community and partners, and most importantly, championed Native Tejano heritage.

The conference united people from diverse backgrounds, from community leaders to corporate professionals, historical organizations, history enthusiasts, political officials, and educators, all connected by a common commitment to Tejano heritage and Texas history.

The event began with a morning of exhibit viewing and networking, where guests were able to immerse themselves in Native Tejano history with our original Tejano exhibits, historical Tejano portraits, maps, documents, and artifacts that brought the history to life.

Attendees also had the opportunity to visit vendor tables from our partners from THC and TSHA, as well as connect with organizations and other partners committed to making a difference in the community through Texas history.

At noon, guests gathered for the luncheon and presentations. Our program featured inspiring words from community leaders and representatives of statewide organizations, including City of San Antonio City Council District 3 Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, Fabian Castillo who is the current El Rey Feo Consejo, Stephen Cure from the Texas Historical Commission (THC), and Dr. Rick McCaslin from the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA). They each played an important role in emphasizing the lasting impact of Tejano contributions on Texas history and the importance of collaboration in keeping those legacies alive.

After the presentations, as part of one of our educational initiatives, we announced that Southwest ISD in San Antonio, TX, was selected as the winner to receive free A Tejano Son of Texas Teacher Kits for all 4th and 7th grade students.

These Teachers’ Kits will include a Teacher’s Guide that has student assignments conforming with TEKS, Student Books, a poster for the classroom, and a digital copy of primary documents. SWISD’s superintendent, Dr. Jeanette Ball, accepted the recognition on behalf of the district. These resources will help ensure that 4th and 7th grade students gain access to authentic, engaging materials that teach Tejano heritage as supplemental Texas history.

To wrap up our event, we added some fun with a raffle giveaway, where attendees won wonderful prizes donated by some of our partners, including TSHA, THC, Historian Mr. Robert Garcia, and Anne Marie’s Catering

In addition, several interviews with leaders and partners were conducted during the event, offering unique perspectives on the value of this conference and collaboration. Links to watch those interviews will be included below.

We are especially grateful to all our partners and sponsors who helped make this event possible. Your support allowed us to create a space where history came alive, and the community came together to celebrate a shared legacy.

We extend our utmost thank you to everyone who joined us, whether in person or virtually. The energy, engagement, and passion from our attendees proved once again that the history of Native Tejanos remain a powerful force in shaping not only early Texas, but also our future generations.

For those who could not attend in person, or for anyone who wants to relive the highlights, we’re excited to share a few resources with you:

Stay tuned for future updates, events and collaborations as we continue our mission of championing Native Tejano heritage and ensuring it remains a vital part of Texas history.

Viva Tejas!
