Rudi Rodriguez AARP Hispanic Heritage Profile

Current |

AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, social welfare organization with a membership of nearly 38 million that helps people turn their goals and dreams into real possibilities, strengthens communities and fights for the issues that matter most to families — such as health care, employment and income security, and protection from financial abuse.

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, AARP sought out Hispanic members of the community who have made a large contribution to impact Hispanic Heritage. Our President, Mr. Rudi R. Rodriguez, was selected and profiled as an “Inspiring San Antonian” who's provided leadership in research and publishing to help tell the story of Tejanos and their impact on the development of Texas and the American Southwest.

“It was an incredible awakening… I discovered that there were Tejano Texas Rangers and that there were Tejano judges, and there were Tejano surveyors,” says Mr. Rodriguez. This awakening has lead to a movement to bring awareness to and education of our Tejano heritage. Texas Tejano.com has pioneered the education, elevation and celebration of Tejano heritage and legacy. This is accomplished through traveling exhibits, a lecture series, documentaries, artifact collections, photo, map and document collections. Our role as an advocate has been to provide leadership through collaborations with partners like AARP, the Texas Historical Commission, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
