A Tejano Son of Texas at SMU

November 17, 2015

Tuesday
TIME: 5:00pm
LOCATION:
5901 Bishop Blvd Dallas, Texas 75205

Texas Tejano.com is a San Antonio based firm with the primary objectives of history research, publishing and communications. Our mission is to educate people about the contributions of early Texas Tejano Pioneers and to bring awareness to the true stories of their lives and legacies.

To that end, we are proud to announce a partnership with Southern Methodist University to tell the story of Jose Policarpio “Polly” Rodriguez. A legendary Tejano Pioneer who is the epitome of Tejanos in Texas and the many roles they played in its development. Polly was a surveyor, successful rancher, Texas Ranger and finally a Methodist minister.  Everyone is invited to this event to learn more about Polly and the role Tejanos played in the development of our great state.

Beginning on November 16, 2015, a world-class traveling exhibit on Jose Policarpio “Polly” Rodriguez will be on display at Southern Methodist University in the Prothro Building’s Great Hall. The “A Tejano Son of Texas” traveling exhibit explores the life, family, and legacy of Jose Policarpio “Polly” Rodriguez. The exhibit will be on display on November 16, 17, 18 and 20 and is open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm each day.

To provide as full a view of Polly’s life as possible, there will also be a documentary screening and lecture on the life of Polly as well as an evening reception. This exciting documentary captures the life of Polly beginning in 1842 when his family leaves Zaragoza for San Antonio and chronicles his career as he pioneers Texas. Also, noted historian Rudi R. Rodriguez will deliver a vibrant lecture on Polly’s life and the impact he made on the development of Texas. The events on November 17th are free and open to the public, but we ask you to please send us your RSVP if you expect to join us for the reception. Please RSVP here or at map@smu.edu.
