Background:
The purpose of Tejano Heritage Month Celebrations in September/October is to help bring awareness and education to students and the public about the contributions and accomplishments Tejanos made to the development of early Texas history. Not much has been recorded or published about the legacy and heritage of Tejanos from the early 1700’s to the late 1800’s. We believe that providing individuals with an identity and understanding of their ancestor’s role in the Lone Star States history, will provide an additional strengthening of character and ultimately provides a stronger society.
Goals:
We submit, that the use of our comprehensive and multi-disciplined cultural, historical and educational products provides students and the general public with an array of learning experiences that helps deepen the understanding of diversity and history of Texas. Secondly, educational experiences can be developed to provide an awareness of the diverse pioneering ethnicities that helped develop early Texas. Thirdly, with public outreach, the local community may also benefit from these same learning tools.
Programing:
The target date for proposed activities is usually September/October during both Tejano Heritage Month and National Hispanic Month, or during March for Texas History Month. Institutions or municipalities and or other organizations should begin with a list of potential collaborators to organize with. A number of associations working together can best market, organize and succeed with multiple agendas.
Initial marketing should include media in and around the community along with contacting the local business community to help publicize the event. All public locations with significant foot traffic should also be target for printed matter.
Genealogy, historical associations, and commissions should also be of keen interest to engage in this project. Certain city, state and national departments and other community organizations should also be combined in this effort.
Schools, universities and school district organizations should be contacted for participation. Teachers, faculties and board members should be an integral part of collaboration and benefit. Obliviously, students of all ages should be able to benefit from attending events, reading material and seeing exhibits and documentaries, etc.
Lastly, the general public may participate in public events, screenings, and presentations. There are many combinations of the different programs we offer that can be used and can be based on varied budgets.

Remarks:
Since its founding in 2002, Texas Tejano has sought to benefit individuals, communities and the state with meaningful and scholarly efforts to help champion the true lives and stories of “Tejanos” in our state. We believe that our diverse programs have assisted communities, institutions, schools, universities, and other associations to tell the many cultural and historical stories of the Lone Star State!
