       RIVERA Y VILLALÓN, PEDRO DE (?–?). Pedro de Rivera y Villalón, a brigadier in the Spanish army, was sent from New Mexico in 1724 on a tour to inspect the frontier defenses of New Spain. The trip, which lasted until June 29, 1728, covered more than 8,000 miles. In his diary Rivera described the location of settlements and Indians, customs and habits of the inhabitants, and the products of the soil.
