       PARDO, MANUEL (1774–?). Manuel Pardo, ad interim Spanish governor of Texas in 1817, was born in Santander, Spain, in 1774. He participated in the wars in France in 1795 and Portugal in 1801. In 1802 he took part in the battles of Aranjuez and Madrid. After sailing to Mexico and entering the army there, he reached the rank of colonel.
