In 1885, Francisco Gerodetti, an Italian immagrant , purchased land from Jose Policarpio Rodriguez and opned his store, selling supplies, groceries and homemade wine. A post office was set up inside the store, and mail would be brought in by horseback from Pipe Creek, over the hills east of the store.
